Medication isn’t just about getting a prescription filled — it’s about knowing what it is you are putting into your body and the different types of medications that are there for you. It’s not just enough for you to be educated about drugs but you need to understand how the world of health drugs work and what they are intended to do for you and how they help you. So here are some things you should know about the world of pharmaceutical drugs and the different categories.
Schedule II: These drugs are the most highly guarded drugs on the planet because they are the highest grade of prescription drug you can get. They are always kept under lock and key for the pharmacy staff and the inventory on them is heavily guarded. This is different than say a drug like Amoxicillin. That drug is watched and guarded but if, for instance, that drug ended up missing 5 or 10 pills there wouldn’t be much made about the loss and not that many questions to answer but if there were 5 to 10 tablets of OxyContin missing from the bottle, the company might go so far as to investigate about where the missing pills are.
These pills must be counted by hand and then double and triple counted in some cases to make sure that the patient is getting the right amount of pills and that the pharmacy isn’t giving out too many either. This is a big security concern for most pharmacies. When the drug is delivered to the pharmacy, they are not delivered with the regular drugs you might find in a normal warehouse. They are actually shipped by a private carrier and must be checked in by the pharmacist and no other member of the staff. The reason drugs such as this one are highly guarded is they are extremely addictive and are sold on the black market.
