From depression
to panic
, mood and anxiety disorders are a leading cause of suffering and impairment in America. Though they are very much preventable, they frequently go undetected, untreated, or under-prescribed. The result is not only high morbidity and mortality rates, but also a staggering cost to the US economy.

Recognizing the pervasiveness of this problem, Congress recently mandated the development of treatment guidelines for mood and anxiety disorders. In response, physicians at the Massachusetts General Hospital established the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Institute, under the leadership of several renowned experts in the field.
